“The artist one day falls through a hole in the brambles, and from that moment he is following the dark rapids of an underground river which may sometimes flow so near to the surface that the laughing picnic parties are heard above.” ~ Cyril Connolly
A New York surrealist, my allegorical approach to painting has been called dysphoric and silent, vulgar and elegant, horrifying yet romantic. I attribute these dualities to their place of origin – the subconscious. Their primary inspiration are night terrors that afflict me from infancy, and I translate them onto canvas. I wish to portray psycho-spiritual turmoils as they are in their primordial form, undiluted by rationale, and have dedicated my life to their execution. In 1999 I moved from Ukraine to U.S. where I received a bachelors in Illustration from School of Visual Arts and continue pursuing the language of the fantastical and macabre.
