Rain is a classically-trained, symbolist painter with a passion for dark surrealism, utilizing allegorical and at times provocative imagery to convey ideas about the more elusive aspects of the human condition.
After immigrating to the United States from Ukraine in 1999, she continued pursuing an education in fine art, first at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art, and subsequently at School of Visual Arts. During the student years, she was influenced by renowned mentors, such as Steven Assael and Donato Giancola, whose guidance helped develop a singular focus, diligent work ethic, and an expanded vision of where she could explore her ideas.
Presently, Rain lives in New York and exhibits alongside her idols, both domestically and internationally.
My devotion to fine art began in Ukraine, where it served as a remedy against night terrors that plagued me from infancy. I found solace in releasing the terrifying images trapped in my mind onto canvas. The more I painted, the more liberated I felt, the more fascinated I was with the power of art over the heart and mind. My work has evolved monumentally, graduating from studious interpretation of nightmares to realization of their significance in philosophical and archetypal context. These present interests allow me to shed light on the darker aspects of the subconscious, allowing me to be at once honest, vulnerable, and empowered about my own humanity with my audience.
The ultimate purpose of my work had also evolved over time. Having found catharsis in artistic exorcisms, I now seek to affect a similar kind of salvation: to create uncensored and seek genuine wisdom. The ideas portrayed in my work, although visually unique, are actually quite universal. Nostalgia, Enlightenment, Solitude, Lust, Mortality, Time, and the like intrigue us all. In this way, my art speaks to everyone who listens.
